C.S. Lewis & Intelligent Design

CSLewisThis month marks the 50th anniversary of the death of beloved writer C.S. Lewis. “C.S. Lewis and Intelligent Design” is the third of three short documentaries inspired by the book The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis on Science, Scientism, and Society. Lewis is best known for his magical stories about Narnia, but a new documentary explores his life-long struggle to find intelligent design in a world filled with pain. Eventually, he is a strong defender of ‘intelligent design’ in nature.

We consider his approach philosophical and approve it, but we are reluctant towards the so called ‘ID-theorists’ of our times, who are depicted here without any critisism. Our criticism in their regard is the confusion the often seem to allow between natural sciences and philosophy. We hold the position of Peter Kreeft, that intelligent design is not science but philosophy. It is impossible to prove scientifically that nature had been designed, for philosophical reasons: design, and even less a designer, is not a physical category. Scientific proof is physical in nature.
